In 1950 he published a paper asking “Can machines think?” He developed the Turing test to discover if a machine could imitate human conversation.
This test became the foundation of artificial intelligence. In 1952 he was arrested for homosexual acts. Instead of prison he opted for treatment to reduce his libido.
Turing was found dead in 1954 of cyanide poisoning. He was pardoned by the British Government in 2013, leading to Turing’s law which pardoned all gay men convicted under historical legislation.
