16 personality types of Animal Kingdom characters
Smurf: ESTJ
There is no personality type more fitting for the Cody Matriarch than ESTJ. ESTJs are natural-born leaders and are often the ones in charge – which is exactly what Smurf is. They are also very good at organizing things and making sure that everything runs smoothly. Smurf is the leader of the Cody boys and she keeps them all in check. They respect her and listen to her, even when they are mad at her. It’s Smurf who taught her boys the game and it’s Smurf who controls the jobs and the money.
Unhealthy ESTJs can be power-hungry and domineering, and Smurf did not want to give up any control of her family. She was very possessive of them and did not want anyone else to have any influence over her boys. When the boys cut Smurf out, she would manipulate and scheme to get them back under her thumb. She was not above using blackmail or even violence to get what she wanted. This is not the healthy side of ESTJs, but it does show how powerful they can be.
J Cody: INTJ
J Cody is an INTJ. Out of all of the Cody boys, J is definitely the smartest. He is a mastermind who is always thinking several steps ahead. He is a natural leader and strategist, and he is always the one to come up with the plan. Because he’s the youngest, newest member and is in fact the other boys’ nephew, they don’t want to believe that J is as strategic and intelligent as he is. They think he’s a hothead and that he doesn’t know what he’s doing, but J always has a plan. He is calm and collected under pressure, and he always knows what to do.
Unhealthy INTJs are power-hungry and will do whatever it takes to get ahead. J knows how it works with Smurf and he knows how she has anything set up. He knows how to work the system and how to get what he wants. Like an INTJ, J is not an emotional individual and he can hold it together well. That’s why he’s the one who always has to be the voice of reason when things get out of hand. That’s why he shot ***** in the head when nobody else could.
Pope: ISTJ
Pope is an unhealthy ISTJ. ISTJs are very loyal and dedicated people, but they can also be quite controlling. Pope is extremely possessive of his family, specifically Smurf and he does not want anyone else to have any influence over them. Pope often pulls away from his family. He is reserved and methodical in his thinking. This can be a good thing, but in Pope’s case, it often leads him down a dark path. He is not able to see other points of view and he is very set in his ways. This can make him inflexible and unable to adapt to change.
Whilst Pope is unemotional and detached, he also has poor impulse control and is quick to anger. It’s important to note that Pope suffers from mental illness which can also drive conditions like OCD, which Pope has. Unhealthy ISTJs are often obsessive, which Pope definitely is. This can lead to some very unhealthy behaviors, like isolation and manipulative behavior.
Deran Cody: ISFP
Deran is an ISFP, which means he’s a free-spirited individual who lives in the moment. ISFPs are often misunderstood because they can come across as aloof or uninterested. This is definitely Deran. He’s not interested in getting power in the family business as he isn’t as interested in running things. He would rather just do his own thing like surfing and running his bar whilst helping on the jobs. Deran is also a bit of a rebel. He’s not afraid to stand up for himself and he does not follow the rules. This can be a good thing, but it also gets him into trouble.
Like an ISFP, Deran is impulsive and he doesn’t always think things through. He bases his decisions on how he feels in the moment rather than on considered logic. Deran is also quite sensitive and he feels things much more deeply than his other family members do. He’s not afraid to show his emotions, which can be a good thing, but it also makes him a target for manipulation. And Smurf definitely takes advantage of that.
Craig Cody: ESFP
Craig Cody embodies the ESFP personality type. ESFPs are fun-loving and carefree individuals who live for the moment. They’re often the life of the party and they love to be surrounded by people. Craig is definitely a people person. He loves to be around people. He’s always throwing parties, hooking up with girls, and generally just living it up. Like an ESFP, Craig is also quite impulsive and he doesn’t always think things through. He’s the type of person who would rather just do something than sit around and plan it out. This can get him into trouble, as he’s not always able to see the consequences of his actions.
But Craig is also very loyal and he’s always there for his family, even when they don’t deserve it. He’s not afraid to stand up for them, even if it means getting into a fight. Unhealthy ESFPs can be quite self-destructive. They often don’t know when to stop and they can get themselves into sticky situations. Craig definitely pushes the boundaries and he is prone to taking drugs and drinking. He’s always getting himself into scrapes, whether it’s with the law or with other gangs.
Baz Blackwell: ENTJ
Baz Blackwell is an ENTJ. ENTJs are natural-born leaders who are always looking for ways to improve things. They’re very efficient and they have a gift for seeing the big picture. They can also be power-hungry and ruthless. Baz was definitely a leader in the family. When he was alive, he was the most power-hungry and ambitious of the Cody boys.
ENTJs are strategic and ambitious, which Baz definitely is. He’s always thinking several steps ahead and he’s always looking for an angle. This can make him manipulative, as he’s always trying to get what he wants. Unhealthy ENTJs won’t let things like loyalty get in the way of their goals. Baz is willing to betray his family members if it means he can get ahead. He’s also quite ruthless and he’s not afraid to hurt people, physically or emotionally. Baz’s lust for more money and control ultimately led to his downfall as Smurf took him out.
Mia Benitez: ISTP
Mia Benitez embodies the ISTP personality type. ISTPs are independent and spontaneous individuals who live for the moment. They’re often adrenaline junkies who love to take risks. This can definitely be said for Mia. She’s very independent and she doesn’t rely on anyone else. She’s also quite impulsive and she’s always looking for new thrills. This can get her into trouble, as she’s not always able to think things through. Mia is also a bit of a loner. She’s not really interested in socializing or being around people. She’d much rather be off on her own, doing her own thing.
Like an ISTP, Mia is definitely not afraid of taking risks. She’s always putting herself in dangerous situations, whether it’s shooting someone in the middle of the street or going behind J Cody’s back. Unhealthy ISTPs can be quite self-destructive. They often don’t know when to stop and they can get themselves into sticky situations. Mia definitely pushes the boundaries and she is always putting herself in danger. Ultimately she pushed J too far and this led to her demise.
Frankie: ENTJ
Frankie is an ENTJ. She is ambitious, goal-oriented, and she knows exactly what she wants. Frankie was unassuming at first. But she quickly made some moves and won Craig over to do some jobs with her. ENTJs are able to see the bigger picture and they’re very strategic thinkers. This is definitely Frankie. She’s always 10 steps ahead of everyone else. She’s always planning and scheming for the next job. When she was underpaid for a job, she didn’t act up because of the connections and network the rich guy could bring.
ENTJs can also be quite manipulative. They’re not afraid to use people to get what they want. And Frankie definitely does that. She uses her sexuality and her relationship with Craig to get her way. She’s also not afraid to play dirty. ENTJs can also be quite bossy and domineering. They like to be in charge and they’re not afraid to tell people what to do. Frankie definitely has that side to her. She wanted to take over Smurf’s operation and she did everything she could to make that happen.
Adrian Dolan: INFP
Adrian, Deran’s ex-boyfriend is an INFP, which means he’s a sensitive and introspective individual. He’s in touch with his emotions and he feels things deeply. He’s more interested in living a simple life; surfing and being happy. He’s also a bit of a dreamer and he’s not afraid to follow his heart. This can get him into trouble, as he’s not always able to see the consequences of his actions.
Adrian loved Deran even though he knew Deran and his family are criminals. After being used as a drug mule by another gang, Adrian was blackmailed by the DEA for information on the Cody family. When Deran found out, he knew his family would kill Adrian so he sent him to Bali to surf and start a new life. Adrian has a good heart and he’s always looking out for Deran, even though Deran doesn’t always deserve it. Adrian is also a bit of a pacifist and he’s not interested in violence. He’s the type of person who would rather just walk away from a fight than get involved in one.
Nicky: ENFP
Nicky, J and Craig’s ex-girlfriend, is an ENFP. She’s creative, charming, and she loves to have fun. ENFPs are often the life of the party and they love to be surrounded by people. She’s easily offended and she can hold a grudge. When J broke up with Nicky to protect her, she ended up sleeping with his cousin and getting involved in drugs.
Unhealthy ENFPs can be self-destructive and rebellious. Nicky is a prime example of this. She moved out of her family home and went to live with the Codys, even though she knew it was a dangerous decision. Eventually, Nicky got shot in the leg and her family took her back in. Despite her chaotic lifestyle, Nicky is a good person at heart. She’s loyal and protective of her loved ones, and she’s always there for them when they need her.

They can indulge in all kinds of sensory behaviors.
Renn is a drug dealer and a drug addict. She started taking drugs at a young age, she overdosed and ended up in the hospital, and she continued to deal throughout her pregnancy. As a risk-taking ESTP, Renn even continued dealing drugs when she had the baby and the baby was in the house. Renn dealt from Craig’s house even though he kept warning her not to. Responsibility and commitment are not ESTP strengths. They like to live in the moment and they’re not very good at planning for the future.
Pamela Johnson: ENTJ
Pamela Johnson is an ENTJ. ENTJs are natural-born leaders who are very confident and decisive. They’re often seen as bossy or pushy, but they’re just very straightforward and to the point. Pamela is also very logical and she’s not afraid to make tough decisions. This can sometimes make her seem heartless, but she’s just very realistic. She hustled for her and her son and she did what she had to do.
Pamela is also ambitious and when it comes to crime, she’s not afraid to take calculated risks. She’s always looking for new opportunities and ways to make more money.
